Rebel Dane will be looking for more than just his first Group 1 win when he lines up in the George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday April 6, 2013.
The three-year-old will be out to prove to trainer Gary Portelli that he is capable of contesting the $2 million Doncaster Mile later this month.
Jockey Craig Williams will be the one to pass his final feedback on to Portelli following Saturday’s 2013 George Ryder Stakes.
“Saturday is a big test for us going forward,” Portelli said.
“Craig Williams wants to get a feel of him looking at the Doncaster.
“If Craig doesn’t think he can get a strong mile and doesn’t want to ride him in it, then that will probably tell us what we do.”
Portelli is looking forward to running Rebel Dane in the 2013 George Ryder Stakes, however, does not feel that they will be able to break Pierro’s winning run.
Rebel Dane got to within a nose of Pierro when the two met in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes at Rosehill last month.
“Pierro, that’s a daunting task,” Portelli said.
“He is probably one of the best three-year-olds we’ve seen.
“I wouldn’t dream that we might beat him but I would like to pressure him again. I’d be rapt with that.”
Rebel Dane has won four of his six race starts and has earned close to $290,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.
