The 2014 Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) will feature a final field of 15 at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this weekend, offering punters several key opportunities to place a winning bet.
A late nomination following torrent weather in Sydney over the past few days, Red Tracer has received a huge share of bets to register as clear favourite and undoubted market mover for success in the 2014 George Ryder Stakes at a quote of $3, ahead of Boban ($6), Sacred Falls ($7) and Eurozone; currently featuring at $10 odds.
Will Red Tracer justify resounding favouritism in the wet, or will one of her classy adversaries find the George Ryder line in the clear?
Red Tracer ($3)
A known performer on soaking wet tracks, Red Tracer was one of the standout performers of the 2013 racing calendar claiming five wins and four seconds from 10 starts, including the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) and Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m). Having returned to the track in typically strong form, the talented Dane Shadow mare strolled home to win the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) first-up before finishing a competitive third in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) last time out. Despite drawing the somewhat awkward barrier 13, Red Tracer should have no issue in comfortably claiming the 2014 George Ryder Stakes this weekend.
Claiming five wins from as many starts in a perfect 2013 spring preparation, including the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) and Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m), talented miler Boban was less-than-convincing in his first two race starts this time in, but returned to form with a strong final straight sprint to claim the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm most recently. Having drawn barrier 9, jockey Glyn Schofield has been confirmed to retain the ride on the Bernardini gelding in the George Ryder Stakes, and will be tough to beat if in prime position rounding the bend.
Closing a strong maiden preparation with a comfortable win in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) on September 28th, Team Cummings-trained colt Eurozone has returned to the track in good condition this season, unlucky to finish second by a nose in the Group 1 C.F Orr Stakes (1400m) first-up before fading for fourth in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) and producing a strong last-gasp sprint to claim third in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) most recently. Having drawn the ideal inside barrier for the George Ryder Stakes, Eurozone is more than capable of continuing his consistent run of form on Saturday.
