2015 George Ryder Stakes a Likely Target for Shooting To Win

January 14th, 2015

Securing several impressive results over a memorable tilt through the 2014 Spring Carnival, trainer Peter Snowden has outlined a path through the 2015 Autumn Racing Carnival for classy colt Shooting To Win, including an appearance in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) on March 21st.

Beating just one runner home in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) first-up on August 23rd, Shooting To Win ran second to Panzer Division in the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) on September 6th before placing an impressive third in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) on September 13th.

Pressing on to a three length victory in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) before charging home to take out the featured Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) most recently on October 11th, Snowden confirmed the Northern Meteor colt will line up for a Randwick barrier trial on Thursday and will complete two further hit-outs before a likely competitive return in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) on February 21st.

“Keeping in mind he is a colt, I found last time in that it takes a fair bit of work to get him there so that’s why I think the three trials is what he needs to get him ready first-up at 1400m, in a race you’d want to see him run well in,” Snowden told Racenet.

“His work has been very sharp; he’s come back in good order.”

Outlining the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) as likely-to-be his second point of call, Snowden said the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) in Melbourne on the same day may figure, depending on fields and lead-up form.

“We would then look at the George Ryder (March 21) then see how he’s going after that,” he said.

Finishing outside the places just once over his seven start career so far, Shooting To Win debuted with an impressive two lengths victory in the Corporate Members Race Day Maiden (1200m) on May 29th; returning to the paddock for a brief spell after a second comfortable win in a minor over 1250m and Canterbury on June 11th.
