Running a close second to Bello in the 2013 edition of the Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap (1400m), Laser Hawk suffered a severe tendon injury during the George Ryder Stakes, leading to a 16 month stay in the spelling paddock.

Following up runs for eighth in both the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1400m) with a credible third in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) most notably on September 20th, Pride has been thrilled with the work produced by the Artie Schiller gelding in recent weeks and is excited by the chances of further top-line success through autumn.

“I could not be happier with him, he looks amazing,” Pride said.

“He is coming off a very long spell, an injury enforced spell, and I think that you often don’t see horses get to their peak within those spells.

“He had a short break where we kept him ticking over out at Gooree and he has come back in and transferred into a different horse.

“He ran a really good race here last year in the George Main and I am hoping that we will be able to maintain that sort of form this time in.”

Securing four wins and as many minor places from his 13 competitive starts so far, Laser Hawk began his racing career under the guidance of Gai Waterhouse before transferring to the care of Pride following his unfortunate injury.

Undoubtedly finding career-best form to date over the 2012 autumn season, Laser Hawk won a minor over 1500m first-up and placed third in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) before charging home to take out the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) in late March; returning to the paddock following a credible in the Australian Derby (2400m).
