Winx Odds On in Early 2017 George Ryder Stakes Betting

March 14th, 2017

Winx is set to face undoubtedly her biggest test since last year’s Cox Plate when she takes her position in Saturday’s 2017 George Ryder Stakes field, but the mare remains a clear and odds-on $1.16 favourite to win the race at Rosehill Gardens.

Winx will be seeking her sixteenth-consecutive race win in the George Ryder Stakes 2017 and is a justifiable dominant occupant of the top line of betting, but the champion mare will have to overcome the likes of Chautauqua for the first time.

Chautauqua is a multiple Group 1 champion and will take his position in the 2017 George Ryder Stakes field off the back of an agonizingly close second in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).

A standout during last year’s Autumn Carnival, the Encosta De Lago stormed home to win the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) and finished third in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m), before taking out the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) during The Championships.

While failing to come up in the spring, Chautauqua has found terrific form this time and appears as though he will relish a step up to 1500m this weekend.

Le Romain and Black Heart Bart both carry Group 1 winning form into the George Ryder Stakes and should also both relish the conditions of the race.

Le Romain broke through for a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) last autumn, and continued to impress through a spring campaign highlighted by a dominant win in the Group 1 Cantala Stakes (1600m).

The Hard Spun gelding is yet to taste anything but success this time, having won each of the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) and the Canterbury Stakes so far.

A former Perth galloper, Black Heart Bart has undoubtedly found career-best form since arriving in Darren Weir’s care and is now a five-time winner at the highest level.

Resuming for second in the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m), the Blackfriars gelding stormed home to win the Group 1 Ladbrokes CF Orr Stakes (1400m) on February 11th before repeating the dose in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) last time out.

The likes of Tosen Stardom, Hauraki and McCreery are also set to be confirmed in the 2017 George Ryder Stakes field.
